CPSO ARREST MAN FOR SHOOTING IN SULPHUR

 

***Update: On Saturday, August 5, the victim, James G. Barrilleaux, 34, Sulphur, died from his injuries.

 

Fontenot’s charges have been upgraded to 2nd degree murder.  Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $950,000.*** 

 

 

Lake Charles, LA-

 

On August 1 at approximately 4:00 a.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on Sherry Street in Sulphur in reference to a medical emergency.  Upon deputies arrival, they located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. 

 

During the course of the initial investigation, detectives developed a person of interest, Erron E. Fontenot, 23, Sulphur, who they believed was possibly hiding in the immediate area where the incident occurred.  At approximately 10:00 a.m. deputies located Fontenot hiding under a mobile home one street over from where the shooting occurred.  He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with trespassing.

 

After further investigation detectives issued a warrant signed by Judge Tony Fazzio additionally charging Fontenot with attempted 2nd degree murder for the shooting.  His bond is set at $250,000.

           

The victim was initially transported to a local hospital.  He was later transported to a hospital out of town and is listed in critical condition.  

 

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged.   A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
