CPSO ARRESTS STUDENT FOR GUN AT SAM HOUSTON HIGH SCHOOL

Lake Charles –

 

Yesterday afternoon, December 14, shortly after 3:00 p.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer at Sam Houston High School was informed that school personnel were notified by students in reference to a 14 year old who was in possession of a handgun while at school. 

 

A short time later, at approximately 3:30 p.m. the CPSO SRO apprehended the student a short distance away from the campus.  Upon a subsequent search performed a loaded firearm was located inside the student’s backpack.  At this time the investigation has revealed that at no time did the student make threats with the gun in his possession.   

           

The student was arrested and booked in the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student in a firearm-free zone. 

           

CPSO SRO Bobby Benjamin is the arresting deputy on this case.  CPSO Detective Clay Planchard is the lead investigator on this case.  The Calcasieu Parish School Board assisted in the investigation.

     

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged.   A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
