CPSO DEPUTY INVOLVED IN SHOOTING

Lake Charles, LA –

Earlier today at approximately 10:00 a.m. a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) initiated a traffic stop on I-10 eastbound, near mile marker 38.

During the traffic stop investigation, the deputy was conducting a search of the vehicle, at which time he located illegal narcotics. While the deputy was still inside the vehicle, the suspect entered the driver’s side and drove off, fleeing the scene with the deputy still inside, kidnapping the deputy. The deputy made verbal commands for the suspect to stop, and he did not comply, at which time the deputy fired his weapon, hitting the suspect.

The vehicle crashed and the suspect and deputy were transported to a local hospital.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages and continuing. CPSO will investigate the drug charges, the attempted 1st degree murder of a deputy, and the kidnapping of the deputy.

Sheriff Tony Mancuso has requested the Louisiana State Police conduct an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
